Clint talks about the benefits that cacao can bring for reversing RA symptoms and general health.

  • Cacao is rich in minerals, including magnesium, which is a major deficiency for many people in the western world
  • Cacao has prebiotic effects on the gut microbiome, stimulating molecules that assist with the promotion of healthy gut bacteria
  • The rich taste is a great addition on breakfast oats or in green smoothies
  • You can get cacao in local health food stores
  • Cacao is an important part of the Rheumatoid Solutions System www.rheumatoidsolutions.com

Good day it’s Clint here with another tip on reversing rheumatoid arthritis symptoms. Today we’re going to talk about cacao. Now, cacao is the precursor to commercial chocolate. It is a wonderful food and it’s very rich in minerals which give it a quite bitter taste. The minerals that it’s sort of famous for include magnesium, which is one of the most commonly deficient minerals across the Western world. Studies show that people with rheumatoid arthritis are overly represented as deficient in magnesium over and above the general population. It’s also rich in other minerals, including potassium, which again, people with rheumatoid arthritis have shown to be deficient in. One of my favorite things about it, though, is not just the minerals and not just the taste, but it is the effect on the microbiome and then in turn the effect on leaky gut. The polyphenols inside cacao and the prebiotic fibers both lend this food source to be good at stimulating healthy ranges of bacteria such as bifidobacteria and lactobacillus. And those create short chain fatty acids which help to fuel the metabolites. Sorry help to few the colonocites which are the epithelium cells that line your gut wall. These foods, these prebiotic foods of which cacao is a good one can aid in repairing leaky gut, so this is good stuff. Because it’s rich in polyphenols, it is therefore an antioxidant, and we know that with rheumatoid arthritis there is an overwhelmingly representation of oxidative stress to many free radicals in the body. So when you’re adding antioxidant rich foods to your diet, it’s a great direct strategy to reduce oxidative stress.

What I like to do with the cacao is just to get it in powder form as opposed to the nibs. If you get the nibs, they can be a little crunchy and quite hard. So if you’ve got any little pits in your teeth or you’ve got a loose tooth or a sore tooth, fortunately I don’t have any of those at the moment, but I’ve had little pits in the past. The hard cacao nibs can be a little bit of an of a little bit too hard in that circumstance. But if you get the powder, you can just sprinkle it onto your breakfast cereal like I do. You can also put it into green smoothies and then that being a brown smoothie, but it’s pretty versatile. So get yourself some cocoa powder, get into it, and hope this helps you on your healing mission.
